I started the works of a high altitude balloon project. I dream to send a helium filled balloon packed with electronic stuff to the upper layers of atmosphere. The proposed electronic stuffs include an onboard flight controller computer, preferably something like beagleboard, a digital camera, various sensors to measure atmospheric conditions like temperature, pressure, humidity and if possible cosmic radiation. In addition to this there should be a navigation system comprising of gps locators, radio control etc This project is unlike all the other high altitude balloon projects because of its real time data transfer capability. In normal balloon projects, the data gathered during flight, ie, photos taken and sensor readings are stored in an onboard computer which is recovered after the flight. This project aims to create a high speed communication link between the balloon and a ground station using the unliscenced 2.4GHz ISM band.
